The kickoff meeting for the 2018-2019 academic year was informative, encouraging, and exciting as we were blessed to have the Mayor of Oakland @libbyschaaf share on the importance of recycling and the city's commitment to making improvements for the next generation; Ms Nicole and Ms Heather share on the impact work behind the origin of @wisdomsupply.co and their commitment to schools; Mr. Ivan engage community behind his work as Youth Ambassador for @litterati ; and all other members of our community share. Now the work begins! In our Transformers voice, Advocates ACTIVATE as we reach 1,000 young people in Oakland and the surrounding areas. June 16, 2018 | Lake Merritt Clean-up with Youth Going Green
#YouthGoingGreen & Friends clean the lake the Saturday after the Warriors Championship Parade, and it was relatively clean. There were bottles, bags, and even one of those Go Scooters recovered during our time at the lake. Do your part to keep the environment clean with Youth Going Green. Friday, May 4, 2018 | First Friday Family Fun: Movie Night
To continue learning and in support of Earth Day 2018, Youth Going Green selected a movie in alignment with the theme "End Plastic Pollution". The attendees watched "A Plastic Ocean" and discussed ways all can eliminate plastic in their lives.
Plastic is everywhere, and if we do not do something now, it will be a very horrifying situation in the next 10 years. What can you do? What will you do? It was a great Earth Day at the Memorial Tabernacle Community Garden! The theme for 2018 is "End Plastic Pollution". Just look upon the beauty of the Lord! New seeds were planted. Weeds were pulled. Plans were discussed to draw the community in. The garden is a place to gather, share, explore, and be at peace. Their table was awesome, and their presentation was informative and humorous! Keep up all the great work, ladies! Memorial Tabernacle will continue to support you and help you go higher while reaching more young people in our community. They also launched their #BeGreenerIn2018 Campaign.

During the meetup, Can Crushers and Advocates prepared for their upcoming participation in the YES Conference. Advocates shared tips to remove the nervousness associated with presenting.

Participants in the September 24th meet-up received an opportunity to learn more about YGG and carbon footprint while completing activities and exercises to reduce their carbon footprint going forward. Engaging discussion, demonstrations of oral and written presentations, and leadership development - all skills displayed today and will help sustain the future of YGG! Williams, Jr. Sermon: Standing Strong, Looking Forward (Exodus 14:13-15) Youth Going Green is looking to do a greater work in the region this year and beyond. 1000 young people before the end of the year is not alot. Let's teach one young person, one school, one community at a time. With one of the founding members relocating to another state, talks have even transpired on starting a chapter in that state. More to come. At moments like this, we become our own roadblocks and barriers, but the opportunities and possibilities are endless. YGG is standing strong, looking forward with MTC! |

Youth Going Green held its first meetup as they aim to reach and educate 1,000 new young people about recycling and waste reduction. Thank you to Ms. Raquel Trinidad, the Public Information Officer of the Community Engagement Office at The Bay Area Air Quality Management District, for engaging in the meetup by sharing her journey and how young people ages 8 to 17 can engage in their initiatives! Thank you to the families - parents and young people - that engaged in the recycle relay game, hand-on craft making, and discussion on next steps! The next meetup is September 24 at 3PM! |

Youth Going Green educated the region on recycling, composting, and waste reduction at the @bayareascience! was invited to participate in the Bay Area Science Festival at AT&T Park. The experience was rewarding to see so many people excited about recycling and composting. It was fun to engage the booth attendees through the card game. It was also great to see kids come up who were well informed about sorting recyclables, compost, and waste. The young people did a great job communicating about their program, the importance of their work, and reiterating learning through games. We had a great team to participate, and Bro Tommy was a great support. The enthusiaum at the booth was so high over the course of the 7 hours.

Compost pail were distributed as we march forward to waste reduction in Alameda County. Ms. Mary as seen in the photo was a proud recipient of knowledge and a compost pail!
